10-year Housing & Homelessness Plan Public Engagement Summary Published

The Kingston & Frontenac County 10-year Housing & Homelessness Plan Public Engagement Report is now published.

In the spring, over 700 residents, housing providers, support service providers, elected officials, municipal staff and individuals with lived experience shared their priorities on housing and homelessness with representation across diverse demographics and experiences through a combination of Webinar, Open Houses, surveys and focus groups. Key themes from the engagement include the need to increase housing supply (particularly for supportive and affordable housing), the importance of wraparound supports, the prioritization of homelessness prevention and housing stabilization, as well as the need for case-specific solutions, evaluation for evidence-based decisions and strengthened advocacy and public engagement.

"The Public engagement summary helps inform the development of the 10-year Plan by incorporating the priorities and experiences of our community," says Kelly Black, Manager of Affordable Housing at the City of Kingston. "This input helps ensure the updated plan reflects evolving community needs while aligning with current provincial priorities"

Feedback and priorities that were outside the scope of the 10-year plan will also be considered to inform relevant initiatives.

Staff and the procured Beam Group team continue to develop the plan that will guide future housing and homelessness service management decisions. Staff will present the draft plan to the Housing & Homelessness Advisory Committee in September. The plan will be brought to City Council for consideration.
