FOR Bert Meunier COMMON - ALARGE DOG PARK IS NEEDED IN THIS COMMUNITY. IDEALLY TWO DOG PARKS - ONE FOR FRISKY PLAYFUL DOGS AND ONE FOR OLDER, SMALLER AND SHY DOGS.

Chuck about 3 years ago

FOR MAX CRESCENT - PREFER AREA BE LEFT ALONE; NO PARK JUST BEAUTIFUL TREED AREA - GREEN SPACE.

I have already sent an email expressing my concerns prior to the meeting. The most serious issue I see is the lack of legal parking near the park currently. I have already sent an email expressing my concerns prior to the meeting. The most serious issue I see is the lack of legal parking near the park. Currently Kars park all along Augusta illegally Currently Kars park all along Augusta illegally Because parents are there with toddlers and strollers and babies. I was not impressed with the Initial solution suggested in the meeting of calling bylaw enforcement. That is totally inappropriate and I have stopped a number of people from doing that because of the lack of parking. With the increased proposed services in the park and with this park servicing a very large surrounding neighbourhood we all know people will be driving, not walking to use the basketball courts and the park. Where are you proposing the park? It definitely has a significant possibility of Blocked driveways and people parking on private property illegally. The token answer of we have forwarded this inquiry to another department really does not address proceeding with the park. The 2nd comment that was made during the meeting that totally amazed me and disappointed me was the response to the person asking if people could walk or jog in a circle around the park without going on to surrounding streets. The answer woz people could complete a circle by using the private lane beside the park . I could not believe that you would propose trespassing in order to have a circle walkway that makes sense for users. And my 3rd point is the question which was not addressed in the meeting. If North South is the preferred orientation for basketball courts why were both options not oriented that way? There is definitely space. Unfortunately the general feedback I've had from people who were on the meeting is that it really doesn't matter what we think, you will do what you want anyway. Such a pity, so disappointing!

Suggestions for Bert Meunier:
1. Make new foot/jogging path a loop along the park edges, around the proposed soccer field
2. Add trees along the park edges to block noise and lights.
3. Add lights along the path for safety
4. Add flood lights for the soccer and basketball fields.
5. Add 2 or 3 tennis courts next to the basketball court. They can double up as skating rink during winter.
6. Car park will be a problem. This development is bound to result in vehicles parked illegally along the road access for resident parking on the south side. Perhaps an enlarged car park area for about 10 cars can be constructed on the east side.
7. Add a few benches along the path.
8. Add more and bigger signs to warn people from letting their pets loose and picking up their "poops"

It would be very much preferred to ensure the City of Kingston takes the necessary steps to safeguard and maintain the current number of mature trees in this park, and if any diseased tree with a trunk caliber greater than 4” at chest height - is removed, the City will plant new trees at a 1 to 1 ratio, in the same park.

You guys should make a basketball court

Domenic LaDuca about 3 years ago

suggestion only:
1. plan trees or flower bed to separate playground. The playground with splash pad is one of the best in Kingston. Illegal parking near the park should be solved soon.
2. Leave rest of the east area for picnic area and green space.
3. If there is a lots of residents require a basketball court, move it more close to west area and face north/south if possible.
4. For the west area, more trees, evergreen plants and flower beds if possible. and green space as much as possible.
Thanks,
Hong

For the Bert Meunier Common plan, it may not have been noticed by the planners or city workers, but dozens of people started using the slight hill on the west side of the concrete seating wall. Daily there were players, and their families watched while sitting under the trees.
I truly love the idea of expanding the walking path though.
It may not get consideration, but could a concrete basketball court not become the winter skating rink? I I agree with this statement as well- As for Max Crescent Park, please conserve the mature trees that are currently on the property. They add a lot of beauty to the neighborhood as well as much needed shade for children at play.

For Bert Meunier Park - More shade trees are required throughout both east/west sides to help reduce the noise/provide for much needed shade. Need more/bigger ‘No Parking’ signs on Augusta/Crossfield sections of street that surround the B. Meunier Park - have By-Law come to BM park on a sunny day, during lunch/mid afternoon hours, on any day of the week and you will be able to ticket so many cars that the city will have the money to install and maintain a proper skating rink during winter months :)

The rubberized surface under the swings at Bert Meunier Commons has become exposed, (with swing use wood chips got displaced), and now it is quite slick on wet days, too slippery for even an adult to use.

Please install a texturized surface under swings so users can safely mount/dismount and put feet down to stop when needed without taking a tumble.

Bert Meunier Commons skating rink area was not flooded this winter, yet other city parks had rinks open/maintained. What happened? Will a skating rink be maintained there next year?

JRivera about 3 years ago

Bert Meunier Common is far too exposed to the wind and sun due to lack of trees. Please plant stands of large trees strategically to shade some of the children's play area and areas with benches as well as mitigate the wind tunnel effect on the property.

As for Max Crescent Park, please conserve the mature trees that are currently on the property. They add a lot of beauty to the neighborhood as well as much needed shade for children at play.

Less Parks equal less taxes and less up keep.
This neighborhood has enough parks and green space.
Look at your property bill it goes up every year.
Most people in Kingston want want want,
time to live within our means!!
95 percent of residents in this neighborhood have yards, USE THEM.
as for dog parks walk your dog on the sidewalk.

Physical activity should be encouraged by all residents in the community so a basketball court and a soccer field would be a great addition to the park. And for people who are complaining about noise issues.....why would you want to live near a park if you don't want to listen to children playing and having fun?!

UKGAL about 3 years ago

We do NOT need a basketball court...the noise from the area is bad enough with people playing on the grass...and can be heard from farther away...not a good idea, far too much noise echoing...i would like to see a dog friendly walking park, wooded area and path would be a much nicer alterative to basketball court...and ANOTHER GAZEBO is needed badly...many times i have wanted to go and sit in the gazebo and enjoy the fresh air...i could not do so with the overcrowding of people under the small existing one... and no space to sit...a second and larger gazebo would be a most welcome addition.

Having commented to the City before, to no avail , I can't pass on the temptation to observe that, at the current state of decay, we have several major thoroughfares crumpling at such a rate that we can contemplate a number of new parks stretching from east to west in the city too soon. Won't that attract a lot of new business to the city?

Fred about 3 years ago

The people who want a basketball court probably do not live directly across from the park as we do as the space echos badly. As well if this space will not be allocated for a dog park I still believe we need one in this area. It is not right to allow condo buildings and new builds on centennial that do not have yards without having a dog park close. Also please remind someone to look at the crossing for the park as many kids run across the street and do not look both ways and I worry someone will get hit one day as the cars speed around the corner. Thank you Kim

Having the wooded park and path is such a great idea, we are so excited for this! Thank you for the excellent plans and making this neighbourhood a priority. There are a lot of residents that appreciate your hard work!

wood.val.m about 3 years ago

We think that your plans look great, and wanted to provide some positive feedback. Having the large path, soccer field, and basketball court are such great recreational features. Thank you!
