Planned improvements

  • Enhancing pedestrian safety, especially for school children, by using bump-outs, narrowing’s, and other features to prevent illegal on-street parking and speeding.
  • One at-grade pedestrian crossover in front of Cataraqui Woods Elementary School.
  • One at-grade pedestrian crossover at the Cataraqui Woods Park entrance.
  • Construction of paved multi-use path through Cataraqui Woods Park connecting Cataraqui Woods Drive to Pinewood Place
  • Intersection improvements at the Cataraqui Woods Drive and Birchwood Drive intersection.
  • Roadway rehabilitation on Cataraqui Woods Drive and Birchwood Drive.
  • Traffic calming measures throughout the corridor including:
    • Curb bump-outs at intersections and pedestrian crossovers
    • Speed cushions and/or speed bumps.

These traffic calming elements are funded through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program and the Road Safety Initiatives Fund which requires permanent traffic calming measures to be incorporated into the design. This design for Cataraqui Woods Drive and Birchwood Drive has been developed in accordance with the City’s Traffic Calming Policy, applicable roadway design guidelines, school area safety standards, and Green Streets principles recently adopted by City Council.

This page will be updated with more detailed maps as design progresses.

Construction impacts

Access: Road closures and driveway restrictions will be required during construction.

Parking: On-street parking may be reduced or not available during portions of construction. Following construction, on-street parking will not be permitted within 30m of the pedestrian crossings and along narrowed sections of the road.

Construction is being planned for Summer 2027 to minimize impacts during the school year.
