Climate change is here. We need your help to identify how it’s impacting our community, so that, together, we can implement real and sustainable solutions.
Take climate action!
Complete a brief survey. The City brought together stakeholders and experts to identify ways climate change impacts Kingston. Tell us which impacts mean the most to you and what else needs to be considered.
How has climate change affected you? Using the mapping tool, let us know where you’ve seen the impacts of climate change within Kingston.
Review all the resources. We have a lot of work ahead of us to reach carbon neutrality by 2040. Across City departments, and this community, positive steps are already being taken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), which are scientifically proven to cause climate change. Find out what is in the works. Please review all the resources shared on this page, and our City website.
How your input will be used
The City recognizes that collective community action is key to achieving meaningful climate action.
The Climate Leadership Plan (CLP) will be informed by community input and provide strategic guidance on how to achieve these very ambitious targets: 15 per cent reduction in GHG emissions over 2018 levels by 2022, and a path to achieve carbon neutrality as a corporation by no later than 2040, with aspirational goals for the community.
Goals of the Climate Leadership Plan
Define a clear path to reach corporate and community carbon neutrality.
Engage the most influential local stakeholders who can make the biggest GHG reductions.
Identify climate risks and adaptation priorities.
Consider solutions that stimulate economic development and prosperity.
Engage for climate change
Global issues require local action. We’ve witnessed this with COVID-19. Kingston’s success in limiting the community spread of COVID-19 has shown that, when we work together, we can make a difference. As we continue to respond to the pandemic, let’s also plan to take climate actions to mitigate future climate-related impacts. The good news of the day: It is within our power to reduce the GHG emissions and improve our resilience to extreme weather and climate impacts…but the City can’t do it alone.
