Community Water Fluoridation
Fluoride is a mineral found naturally in water, soil, and air. Community water fluoridation is the process of monitoring and adjusting the fluoride level in drinking water to the recommended and optimal level to prevent tooth decay. In Ontario, the decision to add fluoride to water supplies is made by municipalities.
On Tuesday, May 7, Council passed a motion directing staff to update information collected during previous engagement and consultation activities and bring this to a special meeting of Council by Q4 2024.
KFL&A Public Health has requested to postpone the Nov. 12, 2024, special meeting of Council. It will be rescheduled for a later date, to be determined. This allows time for a thorough review of all health data related to this topic.
KFL&A Public Health is the lead for public education on Community Water Fluoridation. The City, through Get Involved Kingston, will share communication updates with residents in collaboration with KFL&A Public Health.
