Dog Park Improvements

Two people meeting in an outdoor space with two small dogs on leashes.

Beginning in late March 2025, the City will be upgrading the off-leash dog parks at Rotary Park, MacLean Trail Park, Memorial Centre and Meadowbrook Park to improve safety, drainage and accessibility. This will include the addition of small dog enclosures at Rotary Park, MacLean Trail Park and Memorial Centre.

The off-leash dog parks will be temporarily closed to the public during various phases of construction, for the safety of both people and pooches. Efforts will be made to minimize closures of more than one site at a time. Signage will be installed at the sites to alert park users of the upcoming closures. Improvements are anticipated to be completed by late June 2025.

Upcoming temporary dog park closures

Phase 1

March 24 – April 4: Rotary Park Off-leash Dog Park will be closed for brush clearing and fence installation for a small dog enclosure and general improvements to the off-leash dog park area. Restoration and remaining works are anticipated in late April / May.

March 27-28: MacLean Trail Off-leash Dog Park will be closed for the initial phase (brush clearing) in the area.

Phase 2

April 2 – April 25: MacLean Trail off-leash dog park will be closed for work in creating a small dog enclosure.

Due to unforseen site conditions (rock drilling) causing construction delays, MacLean Trail off-leash dog park will remain closed until April 25. After April 25, part of the dog park at MacLean Trail will be open through the existing gate. The small dog area will remain closed until grass is established.

Small dog enclosures

Small dog enclosures are important to reduce potential conflicts between small and large dogs. A dog is considered a small dog if they are at maximum 10 kg (22 lbs) in weight or 45 cm (18”) tall. Geriatric or injured dogs are permitted in the area at the owner's risk. The initiative to create small dog enclosures at Rotary Park, MacLean Trail Park and Memorial Centre was approved by City Council on July 11, 2023.
