Downtown Kingston Integrated Plan

Downtown Kingston is an important place for residents, businesses, workers, students, visitors, and the broader community.

The Downtown Kingston Integrated Plan (DKIP) is being developed to create a more coordinated, practical, and sustainable approach to improving downtown over time.

We are looking for input on people’s experiences downtown, what is working well, what needs attention, and what ideas should be considered as the plan moves forward.

This engagement is not about selecting final projects or making funding decisions. Input will help shape the direction of the plan and inform future work by inter-organizational working groups.

Why We Are Asking

Recent downtown work has involved many organizations, plans, projects, and priorities. DKIP is intended to help align this work so downtown improvement efforts are more coordinated, realistic, and easier to track over time.

Your input will help identify what people value, where challenges remain, and what ideas should be considered as DKIP moves into its next stage.

What Your Input Will Help With

Input from this engagement will help:

  • Confirm where DKIP should focus
  • Identify what people value and want protected
  • Identify what needs attention
  • Gather ideas for future consideration
  • Surface barriers, risks, and concerns
  • Inform future work by inter-organizational working

What This Engagement Will Not Decide

This engagement will not directly decide:
  • Final projects
  • Funding commitments
  • Council decisions
  • Construction schedules
  • Enforcement levels
  • Detailed implementation plans
  • Which organization is responsible for every action

Those decisions require further review, feasibility testing, partner discussion, funding assessment, and formal approval where required.

How Input Will Be Used

Ideas and feedback will be reviewed alongside:

  • Existing City and partner plans
  • Current downtown initiatives
  • Overall engagement results
  • Partner expertise
  • Feasibility and cost considerations
  • Ownership and delivery capacity
  • Funding and resource requirements

All feedback will be considered as the DKIP is advanced.
