Sir John A. MacDonald was an important, but flawed man.  Looking back, I'm sure we can all relate... 

Instead of wiping out all reminders of him, a better approach would be to acknowledge the historical fault and the current problems that it created with a plaque or monument, in parallel to any reminders of  him, explaining what happened. The effort in public education, such as this, would go a long way toward ensuring that people understand what happened and the consequences for First Nations peoples. It could inspire us to work with First Nations to help them to overcome this past, not to forget it, and to strive to ensure that this kind of thing doesn't happen again.
