Patterson Park Update
The City of Kingston is providing an update on Patterson Park, located at 88 Sunny Acres Road. For many years, this property has been used and enjoyed as a public park, with waterfront access, open green space, and heritage features including the historic Wartman House.
While Patterson Park has functioned as a park for many years, a historic restrictive covenant remained on the property title stating that the land could not be used as a public park.
As part of a recent legal review, the City confirmed that this outdated restriction is no longer in effect. To provide clarity and ensure the property title reflects its long-standing public use, the City is moving forward with removing the expired restriction from title. At the same time, the City is working with the neighbouring landowner to establish a new agreement that would help protect the site for continued community, recreational, park, and waterfront access purposes into the future.
This update does not change how residents currently use Patterson Park. The park will remain open for public enjoyment, subject to normal park rules and seasonal operations.
The City also recognizes that residents have questions about parking, access, maintenance, enforcement, and future improvements.
