Consultation has concluded
Update: The report with recommendations based on the Princess St parking and benches consultation has been approved by Council.
As work on downtown Princess Street continues, the City is seeking input on where parking spaces, accessible parking spaces, benches and bike parking should be located when the street is reconstructed.
The placement of amenities on the newly constructed portion of Princess Street is guided by the Downtown Action Plan and standards set out in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) Design of Public Spaces Standards on:
The need, location and design of on-street parking (AODA section 80.39) and
The design and placement of rest areas along the exterior paths of travel (AODA section 80.29)

The reconstruction of Princess Street is
entering its fourth and final phase with work being performed in the blocks
from Clergy Street to Division Street. The design elements of the project draw
from the streetscape recommendations of the Downtown Action Plan (2004), which
describe how to best fit pedestrian and vehicle uses within the right of way.
This includes wide sidewalks and boulevard areas for amenities.
With the need to keep a wide, clear path
for pedestrian use, the boulevard space alternates between on street parking
areas and pedestrian areas that contain a mix of planters, bicycle posts, waste
and recycling receptacles and street benches.
