October 2026 Purdy’s Mill Park Update
During initial public engagement, the City heard strong support for improving pedestrian connections between the existing neighbourhood, the park, and the stormwater pond site.
As a result, creating a connected and accessible pedestrian pathway system has been established as the primary focus of the conceptual design, with the site layout and proposed connections centred on improving movement between these areas. Public feedback has directly informed the development of the conceptual designs and the prioritization of pedestrian connectivity throughout the site.
Conceptual Designs
The design for Purdy’s Mill Park is organized around three key areas: active recreation in the south, pedestrian connectivity in the north, and protection of the existing central naturalized area. The design prioritizes opportunities for recreation while maintaining and enhancing the site’s existing natural character.
The pathway system will provide a variety of routes and connections throughout the park and neighbourhood, offering choices in route, distance, materials, and destinations. An internal recreational loop will be provided within the southern portion of the park, complemented by formal connections to the stormwater management pond and existing sidewalks along Old Mill Road and Mill Pond Place, as well as opportunities for future connections. Proposed features and amenities include: playground, gathering areas, seating, open lawn areas for informal games, meadow planting and new tree planting for shade an canopy enhancement and more.
