The Jumpstart Inclusive Playground at Shannon Park is now open!
On Friday, July 24, families, community members and representatives from the Inclusive Play Project and the City of Kingston gathered at Shannon Park to experience the first opportunity to play on the Jumpstart Inclusive Playground!
After several years of fundraising and partnerships between the Inclusive Play Project, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, the City, local foundations and businesses, and individual donors, the Jumpstart Inclusive Playground is now open to the public.
Featuring rubber safety surfacing and ramped play structures, the playground provides safe and easy, transfer-free access for kids and family members using mobility aids such as wheelchairs and walkers. The play area also includes sensory-friendly elements, offering engaging opportunities tailored to a wide range of sensory needs.
The City would like to sincerely thank The Inclusive Play Project for their passionate leadership and advocacy for the development of a playground where no one is left out and everyone has the chance to play.
An official grand opening celebration is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at Shannon Park, located near the intersection of Maccauley St. and Daly St. in the Rideau Heights Neighbourhood.
