Playing Sports or Other Games on the Roadway

On Dec. 6, 2022, City Council voted to deregulate the playing of sports on the roadway.

In 2008, a policy and code of conduct were added to Kingston's Streets Bylaw that permitted street hockey to be played between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on neighbourhood streets that have a speed limit of 50km/h or less. The policy and code of conduct only apply to street hockey and do not currently permit the playing of sports or other games on the roadway. On June 21, City Council directed staff to explore ways to allow additional sports and games to be played on local streets.

Let us know what you think.

There are three ways to participate:

  • Complete the survey to provide feedback on playing sports and games on local neighbourhood streets. The survey deadline is 4 p.m. on Aug. 8
  • Request a copy of the survey by calling 613-546-0000. A postage-paid envelope to return the survey will be included.
  • Complete the survey by phone with City staff by calling 613-546-0000.
