Vision, Mission & Values Update
Corporate Vision, Mission and Value statements provide clear direction and purpose for an organization, guide operational decision making, unify and inspire employees through common goals, and communicate the organization’s commitment to the community.
The City of Kingston’s current set of statements is 20 years old. In Spring 2022, staff began working to develop new Vision, Mission and Value statements. Feedback was sought through internal engagement methods including workshops, surveys and focus groups.
It is important to note that although these guiding statements for the corporation are internal in nature and aim to inspire and guide the organization's actions, they should align with Council and the community's vision.
Introducing, the City of Kingston's new Vision, Mission and Values statements
The purpose of a vision statement is to provide a clear and inspiring description of an organization's future aspirations and long-term goals.
The purpose of a mission statement is to define the fundamental purpose and identity of an organization.
Corporate value statements provide a corporation with a defined set of guiding principles that shape its culture, behaviour and decision-making.
The Vision, Mission and Value statements will be reviewed every 3-5 years to ensure alignment with the evolving community needs and goals of Council. The timeframe for review is recommended as a range, recognizing that factors such as changes in leadership, significant developments, or shifts in community priorities could have an impact on the review cycle.
