Pedestrian safety measures and road improvements are planned on McMahon Avenue.

Planned improvements include:

  • New sidewalk along south side of McMahon Avenue from Jane Avenue to Avenue Road.
  • Road rehabilitation work from Jane Avenue to Avenue Road.
  • Traffic calming measures are also proposed along McMahon Avenue from Westmoreland Road to Avenue Road.
This project will help fill a gap in the City’s current sidewalk network and is a project identified in our Active Transportation Master Plan (ATMP) and Five-Year Implementation Plan (ATIP). 

The new traffic calming measures will include curb extensions (bulb-outs) at Westmoreland Road, Jane Avenue, and Seaforth Road. These new traffic calming measures will complement the Community Safety Zone and speed limit reductions put in place on McMahon Avenue in 2022. The traffic calming and new sidewalk will also require some changes to parking regulations along a portion of McMahon Avenue - this has been identified in the map below.

As part of the design process, we are sharing information with community members on the planned location of the sidewalk and asking for input on where benches and rest areas could be located in the area. Suggestions may include rest areas along the existing sidewalk and the new sidewalk. Suggestions received will be considered for the final sidewalk design.

The map below highlights the extent of the work planned as part of this project. Construction is planned to start in the summer of 2023. We will keep residents informed as the design is finalized and the construction schedule is confirmed.

Please review the proposed sidewalk route using the map tool and provide feedback on pedestrian rest areas including benches along the proposed sidewalk by placing a pink pin on the map and leaving a comment. You can also place a green pin on the project map to provide other input for our project team to consider.
