Parks & Recreation Master Plan Update
Consultation has concluded.
The Parks and Recreation Master Plan Update was approved by Council on May 4, 2021. Download the Parks and Recreation Master Plan and Needs Assessment.
The City of Kingston is updating its Parks and Recreation Master Plan aimed at supporting opportunities for active fun over the next 15 years!
The previous plan, developed in 2010, provides an implementation strategy for the development of parks and recreation services until 2025. A number of its recommendations have already been achieved, and a number of new initiatives are now underway.
This Plan helps the City guide and manage parks and open space development, recreation and leisure services, programs, events, facilities, marinas and other recreation amenities.
The goal of the update is to:
- assess the work completed and successes achieved to date, and
- identify investments, policies, and processes to support recreational service needs for the next 15 years.
For more details on this project, see the City’s project page.

Deover 3 years agoWith the tennis nets up at Henderson Park, I played 5 days a week with the Kingston Tennis Group and I'm in great shape.
The only thing missing was a portable toilet.

Our bmx track at woodbine park only has one old light that doesn’t really light up much causing us to end our season early due to loss of light in the fall. The baseball and soccer fields are well lite. Could the city install a few lights to provide safe riding environment at our track and bring it up to the quality of the rest of the park

A great way to get exercise and to connect with the community. Those fitness parks are becoming very popular around Canada. Easy access all year around and versatility of use for all ages. Places like LOP or Woodbine parks would benefit from such area. As a community this is something that could greatly benefit many especially in times of Pandemic and gym closers.

Places to swim without going to crowded “beaches” became more important as we strove to remain active and social while safely distanced

christopher horeczyalmost 6 years agoEnhanced Pedestrian focus around City Hall - Confederation Park
Reduce the parking on the south side of Ontario St in front of City Hall. This will improve the look and feel of the area. Use the recovered space to enlarge Confederation Park and widen the walkway in front of City Hall.
5jswaineover 5 years agoLarge Baseball/Softball Complex to Host Various Events
Kingston is in desperate need of a modern, large-scale facility that can host softball, hardball and slo-pitch tournaments. These types of venues can be found in many cities across Ontario and those cities are constantly hosting large tournaments and events, bringing lots of people to their towns, driving the local economy and boosting tourism. Our fields are nice, but need a lot of upgrading and beautification. Perhaps picking a location and planning a beautiful, new, modern multiplex is the best answer.
42Anne Aberdeenalmost 6 years agoMake Breakwater Beach Accesssible
I have been told the new park is beautiful, and even has a sandy beach. But, I will never be able to see it. It is not accessible. There could easily have been parking put between all the trees on King Street, without cutting down a single tree. There could also have been a lane taking you closer to the beach area with a bunch of parking just for the handicapped. Currently unless you're one of the few to get a spot on King Street you would have to walk quite aways. The park seem to designed for those who can walk quite a ways. I am just stunned that no thought was given to the handicapped and elderly !!!!!
1Brad dadeover 5 years agoBody weight exercise area for Lake Ontario Park
In Chatham, Ontario there is a park called Kingston Park. There they have a variety of equipment stationed for various body weight exercises. If needed I can provide pictures of the equipment. Furthmore I think Lake Ontario park is perfectly set up for this.
2frankcover 5 years agoKids' mountain bike trails at Belle Island
In Kingston, there is limited access to public trails through the woods for kids to ride bikes. The existing trail at Belle Island and the grounds of the golf course (currently being redeveloped), could offer a great opportunity to allow access to this activity for kids without the means to get to MTB Kingston trails and other private access trails. Our club has the expertise to help design and build these trails for almost no cost, which would increase healthy outdoor options for a huge range of Kingstonians and kids of all ages.
