2312 Princess Street

Dawn House Women's Shelter

The City acquired the property at 2312 Princess Street in December 2024 to accommodate a new 20 bed emergency women’s shelter at this location. The renovations consist of adding new accessible washrooms with showers, and updating the kitchen, shared living spaces, as well as the outdoor space. The new shelter opened in Fall of 2025.

Shelter Operations

Since 1986, Dawn House has been providing emergency shelter and transitional housing services to individuals who identify as women. Currently emergency shelter services are operating out of Dawn House’s Transitional Housing program location while renovations are completed on the new permanent women’s shelter at 2320 Princess Street. Dawn House offers 24/7 emergency shelter support to vulnerable women experiencing homelessness. In addition to shelter services, they work alongside each individual to offer case management to support individuals to transition from emergency shelter services, and provide necessities on site such as meals, laundry, personal storage space and showers.

Accessibility

The shelter offers 9 accessible beds, and all congregate spaces are fully accessible.

Community Integration

The City is committed to providing ongoing updates, receiving questions, and guiding a constructive community-led engagement process to those near neighbours to the future Dawn House Women's Shelter. The intent is to ensure clear and consistent communication with the community and to raise awareness of future engagement opportunities designed to hear concerns and to collaborate on how this shelter can be successfully integrated into their neighbourhoods.
