Background
The Active Transportation Master Plan (ATMP) passed unanimously at Council on Tuesday, June 26 and staff will begin implementing the recommendations of the ATMP. One of the recommendations addresses bike parking: “The City should identify an annual budget to implement bike parking and work together with businesses, BIAs and institutions to collaboratively expand bicycle parking options in high demand areas of the City.” The current Bicycle Parking Guidelines were last updated in December of 2013 coinciding with the initial stages of the Princess St. Reconstruction project. This project seeks to update these guidelines to ensure they are practicable for other high demand areas of the City. Such an update would assist with prioritizing bicycle parking projects in the future as funding become available.
