Community indicators provide information about the well-being of a community. They show the progress a community is making towards its vision of becoming a healthy place to live. Indicators are high-level, objective and policy neutral, presenting facts and descriptions rather than explanations. By describing “what”, quality indicators prompt people to question “why”, which can lead to improved analysis, accountability, and policy change.

Why do we need Kingston Community Indicators?

Community indicators:

  • Bring people together to talk about what is important to them in their community.
  • Raise awareness of the strength and weaknesses of the community.
  • Identify key community issues.
  • Spark new community initiatives.
  • Guide municipal government and decision-makers in allocating resources.

    Community Indicators Survey

    This survey includes community indicators that have been short-listed by the community indicators steering committee to reflect the overall quality of life in Kingston.  All of these indicators have a reliable data source for information on the City of Kingston (i.e. Statistics Canada). The final list will have data presented in a community infographic and will be updated at least every five years. The survey closes June 15 at 4:00 p.m.
