Cricket Field Baseball Diamond Renovation – Engagement Summary
Cricket Field Baseball Diamond Renovation project is scheduled for construction in 2023.
The renovation will include repositioning the baseball diamond southwest of the original footprint and adjusting the size of the facility to accommodate children up to 13 years old. The new facility will include a new backstop, covered players benches, spectator bleachers and fencing. The site will be the venue for the Little League Canada national championship tournament in 2024.
Public engagement was conducted in 2022 as an online meeting and survey. Feedback included:
Concerns that the proposed design included a permanent outfield fence which interrupted the central open space and community use of the park.
The conceptual design was revised to remove the outfield fence after the tournament.
Questions included:
Whether the facility would accommodate a cricket pitch
Response: No.
How long will the facility be booked for baseball each year
Response: League play is typically booked between May and September.
Will the facility be accessible
Response: Yes, the site will be accessible
