Spring 2026 Engagement Summary

The City received feedback and comments on the proposed Princess Street Parkettes via both online survey and an in-person Open House held on June 18th at the Memorial Centre. Overall, feedback was supportive of adding new green space to the Williamsville neighbourhood, with several common themes emerging.

Key themes from the feedback include:

  • Trees, shade and greenery were the most frequently identified priorities, with many respondents supporting additional tree planting to improve comfort, reduce heat, and enhance the streetscape.
  • Seating and gathering spaces were strongly supported, including benches and picnic tables where people can rest or enjoy food from nearby businesses.
  • Maintenance was a recurring theme, with comments highlighting the importance of litter collection, waste receptacles, tree care, and addressing vandalism.
  • Accessibility and comfort were identified as important design considerations, including lighting, shade, and creating welcoming spaces for a range of users.
  • Green space and landscaping were encouraged, with suggestions to maximize planting opportunities, minimize paved areas where feasible, and incorporate naturalized landscaping.
  • Safety was raised by many respondents, along with suggestions for features such as lighting and design measures that encourage positive use of the spaces.

The feedback will help inform the design of both parkettes as the project moves into the next stage. The final design will be shared with the community via Get Involved Kingston.
