Why is this bridge being replaced?

An investigation of the bridge condition was carried out during the summer of 2024, which included geotechnical investigations, hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, environmental investigations, topographic surveys and bathymetric (the analysis of underwater topography) surveys. The findings of these investigations showed that while the bridge was in "fair" condition overall, the timber posts and piers are unstable and the structure has displaced laterally or shifted to the side, requiring replacement of the bridge

An orange construction sign that says "sidewalk closed" is pictured at the entrance way to the bridge area. Beyond it workers in orange coveralls are prepaing to conduct and investigation of the bridge. An image from the investigation of the bridge's condition.

Originally built in 2000, the wooden bridge will be 25 years old by the time it is replaced. The new replacement will allow the creation of an accessible pathway to the park structure and playground area.
