Rodden Park Engagement Summary

Rodden Park playground needs to be replaced due to aging equipment. Consultation on the design of the playground commenced on Feb. 8, 2023, with an online public meeting and from Feb. 8 to March 2, feedback on two playground design options was collected in an online survey. Public feedback was collected from over 25 respondents during the consultation period.

Feedback Highlights

  • Swings, monkey bars, and different level slides were the top favourite components from the old play equipment.
  • When asked to rank the playground design preference, respondents ranked Option 1 (84%) and Option 2 (12%).
  • If budget permits, many respondents would like different level slides, sea saw and a picnic table.
  • The area where the pathway is proposed has drainage issues that would need to be addressed.
  • Suggestions included a request to preserve space for a future outdoor rink area.
  • Suggest removing some or all of the existing fence near the parking lot for more flexible access and play in the park.
  • There were several requests for an outdoor ice rink, splash pad, outdoor fitness equipment and basketball court.

These amenities are not proposed as part of the playground improvement. Please refer to the City’s website on how to initiate a community-operated outdoor rink and the Park and Recreation Master Plan for plans on splash pads and outdoor fitness equipment in the City.
