The project team is working hard to protect the rich diversity of wildlife and ecosystem near the bridge. Over the last several months the project team has been working on a ‘Detailed Impact Assessment’ (DIA) with federal departments and agencies.
A DIA is the most intensive form required through the regulatory process and was the process selected to show the environmental considerations, impacts and proposed mitigation strategies for the project and recognizes:
- The considerations to ensure the bridge infrastructure is well designed to avoid or reduce adverse effects; and
- The planned strategies and mitigation efforts to protect the environment and to foster public understanding, appreciation and enjoyment.
Have your say
The project team has posted the full DIA document in the forum section below divided into major categories. An information summary is also posted that outlines the project definition, construction methods, environmental considerations, related studies and the mitigation efforts for the project. Residents are encouraged to review the Detailed Impact Assessment report and the information summary and provide comments and ask questions of the project team in the Forum section below.
Download the Information Summary. The summary is also available for download in french.
Two open houses are also being held for residents to attend and ask questions of the project team as well as submit comments to the DIA.
Thank you for continuing to stay engaged with us on this project. We look forward to your feedback. More information can be found on the project website.
The Detailed Impact Assessment report is available in alternate formats upon request by sending an email to thirdcrossing@cityofkingston.ca.
Background
In 2013 the provincial Environmental Assessment regulatory requirements for the Third Crossing across the Cataraqui River were completed and approved by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change for the Third Crossing. A detailed impact analysis is also vital to satisfy the federal regulatory requirements, along with the provincial and municipal requirements, in planning and building the bridge both on land and in the Cataraqui River. Please find the 2013 Environmental Assessment with the other documents on the page.
