Connecting Local Businesses with Supports and Resources

The economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance for businesses in having reliable and timely access to the supports and resources they require to start, operate, and grow successfully.

The City provides a wide variety of services that are necessary for new and existing businesses to thrive and that also provide safeguards to residents. Services range from issuing licenses required to operate certain businesses, to solving concerns about parking, garbage and patio licenses to major developments that require complex land use approvals, and property acquisitions.

That’s why the City of Kingston is working to:

  • Improve how new and existing businesses access to City resources, programs and processes including some services they didn’t know were available
  • Design a process to streamline how businesses solve problems when dealing with City Hall
  • Identify, evaluate and redesign City policies and procedures to make business interactions with the City easier, faster and more consistent

This initiative is the result of Council’s recognition that enhanced services are needed for to new and existing businesses, including aftercare. We are in the beginning stages of implementing this important work which will include engagement with local businesses. The intent of this work is to enhance support to small businesses when navigating City services.

Do you own, operate, or manage a business in Kingston? Do you plan to open a business in the near future? We want to hear from you to learn more about your needs and/or experiences regarding access to city services. You can help by completing the online survey or attending a virtual open house to share your experiences.
