2025 program summary
In 2025, the Neighbourhood Activation Fund supported over 40 community-organized events across urban and rural Kingston!
Your fellow community members coordinated events that encouraged new neighbours and old friends to gather, connect and celebrate. The community hosted a range of events, including:
- Pop-up movie nights
- Art and music festivals
- Block parties
- Community BBQs
- A mindfulness/meditation program
- Neighbourhood socials
- Cultural gatherings
- and more!
These events offer fun, caring and inclusive spaces for the community to get together. Here’s what a few event organizers had to say about the program:
“The Kingscourt Street Festival brought together about 125 neighbours of all ages for a day of music, food, and connection. From the puppet parade and potluck dishes to live music and dancing in the street, the event created a welcoming and accessible space where everyone felt part of the community. This first festival was made possible with support from the City of Kingston’s Neighbourhood Activation Fund, and food donated by Loblaws." - Susan, Kingscourt Community Association
“The Polson Park Human Library created a vibrant and inclusive space for dialogue, art, and connection. With over 180 participants, the event brought together students, families, educators, and community members to share stories, celebrate identity, and build empathy. This evening would not have been possible without support from the City of Kingston’s Neighbourhood Activation Fund, which helped us create a welcoming and barrier-free experience for all.” - Ekta, community organizer for the Polson Park Human Library
“The Shannon Park Pop-Up Movie was a great success. We had around 150 people come out to enjoy the film, free popcorn, community booths, and a BBQ. The event created a fun, welcoming space for neighbours to gather. This night wouldn’t have been possible without support from the City of Kingston’s Neighbourhood Activation Fund.” - Spencer, Kingston Community Health Centres
