The City of Kingston has received a resident request to establish an off-leash dog park in Snider Park.

We reviewed the proposal based on the City’s Off-Leash Dog Park Policy and determined that the site could accommodate a future off-leash dog park. With plans to replace aging playground equipment in future years, the site has the potential to provide good separation from neighbouring residents.

Input will be shared with Council to inform the final decision on the proposed off-leash park.

  • Off-Leash Dog Parks

When planning new off-leash parks for your four-legged friends, the City considers guidelines set out in the Off-Leash Dog Park Policy to create a safe space for off-leash fun.

What makes a good off-leash park?

    1. New parks should be a minimum of 1.5 acres (that’s the size of four hockey rinks)
    2. Parks must be located 15 metres from park amenities like playground equipment and splash pads
    3. To limit neighbourhood noise, the off-leash area should have good separation from residences
