Fluoride and water fluoridation
In association with the 2019-2022 strategic priority Foster Healthy Citizens & Vibrant Spaces, City Council is committed to ‘examining the feasibility of fluoridating the drinking water’ in Kingston.
The City of Kingston has not made a decision with respect to whether fluoride would be added to the community water supply, but rather is at the early stages of community engagement and completing a technical review of upgrades required to accommodate community water fluoridation. All findings will be reported to Council for consideration.

To learn more about water fluoridation, the City of Kingston has developed the Fluoride and Water Fluoridation webpage. Here you can find information on topics such as: How Fluoride Works, The History of Fluoride in Kingston and a look at what other municipalities are doing with respect to their community water supply.
The City of Kingston wants to hear from you!
To share your input on water fluoridation, we encourage you to participate via the following community engagement opportunities:
- Completing the Fluoride and Water Fluoridation Survey
- Attending one of the Water Fluoridation Open Houses
-
CLOSED: This survey has concluded.
Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey on fluoride and municipal water fluoridation.
As part of its 2019-2022 strategic priorities, Kingston City Council has committed to exploring the feasibility of fluoridating the municipal water supply. As part of this commitment, City staff are currently conducting public engagement to gather input/feedback on water fluoridation.
It is estimated that the implementation of community water fluoridation in the City of Kingston would result in an increase of approximately $1 to the average user’s water bill.
Fluoride is a mineral that can be found in your bones and teeth and is commonly used in dentistry to prevent tooth decay. Learn more on the City’s Fluoride and Water Fluoridation webpage.
The information collected through this survey will be provided to Council in March 2020 for consideration.
