Please add Westbrook to this bus route. There is a need and desire of residents in this area to have a bus route and has been for quite some time. Also take into consideration that there is a new subdivision in our area as well. I would suggest not having the route near Holsgrove School. Thank you!

For over 12 years I have advocated for a City of Kingston bus to travel to the Westbrook area. Each time I ask I receive the same response that there are not enough residents to justify the service. I followed 2 high school buses along Westbrook Road and watch as at least 15 students exited the bus in two stops. That just students. It would suit many people to leave the car at home, walk to a bus stop, travel to the Cat Mall (and beyond), and comfortably fill shopping bags or attend a meeting or appointment, and return without the fuss of driving. This is a sustainable city. Don't leave out neighbourhoods where the shoppers live. Call Councillor Simon Chapelle or Councillor Lisa Osanic for more. Thank you! /pb

I am very pleased that we will finally be getting bus service. I have lived in the Woodhaven neighbourhood since 2015. I am a parent of two university/college age students. We have had to provide a shuttle service to the strip malls at Bayridge Drive and Princess Street for many years where our children could catch a bus to school. We have also had to provide shuttle service to the strip malls where our children could catch a bus to their summer jobs or to their part time winter jobs. The alternative is to give them our car and use the strip mall as a park and ride or drive them. They have also walked to the corner of Bayridge and Princess. The quickest way from our house is along Princess Street. However, there is no sidewalk on that part of Princess and it gets dark pretty early in the winter time. We would prefer it if they would not have to walk that busy stretch of highway, without a sidewalk to use the transit system that they pay for through their student fees. I also feel that as "Green" city we should make transit service available to all tax payers that live in the city limits. Also as our city continues to wrestle with the question of affordable housing, affordable and accessible transit service for all must be addressed as well.

In a city that prides itself on promoting the values of equality, environmental and fiscal responsibility, all Kingston residents must have access to public transportation including its taxpaying population in the Westbrook area. Elderly people need to be able to attend their medical appointments, front line workers need to go to work, students need to attend their classes at colleges and universities, children deserve to enjoy their hokey and swimming lessons, environmentally conscious individuals who feel guilty for driving their gas guzzlers around because they have no other choice need a better alternative.

Please... hear our petition and connect Westbrook to the rest of the world!

Kingston residents are in dire need of a bus route in the westbrook area.

This bus route is very much needed. All though, the stop at Woodhaven Dr and Evergreen Dr will be a chaotic mess. That intersection already is extremely busy with school buses, local traffic and residents parking on both sides of the street.

While residents occupy both side of the street to park vehicles, it has already turned woodhaven dr into a 1 way street due to the roadway not being wide enough to accommodate for both side parking and 2 way traffic.

I think with this expanding community it is obvious that city transportation is a necessary benefit

This route should be extended to Westbrook. There is no safe way to get to the Cat Centre. A stop on Westbrook Rd is needed. It should be an easy add to this route.

I think the Route is fine but why so many stops could use half of them…..

Mbender about 2 years ago

Why would you not cover more streets after turning west on Cataraqui Woods Dr. by going south on Holden, north on Woodhaven, south on Rosanna and then returning to the Cataraqui Centre by going east on Princess? I doubt a bus would be able to get through on Woodhaven near Cataraqui Woods Dr. most of the time though unless parking is limited to only one side of Woodhaven.

Could you please, please, please add Westbrook! We moved to Kingston a few months ago, and we were so excited to move to a bigger city. But unfortunately, my brother and I got so disappointed when we knew that there is no bus route extended to Westbrook area. Our mom doesn't drive, and it ended up that we moved to a bigger and better city but got stuck at home!πŸ˜” Please, please think of kids in the area!

Very pleased to hear of a bus route coming to this area. I would certainly use the bus ,saving driving my car and adding to pollution. I agree with previous comments regarding cars parking on the streets, it would be problematic for the bus to navigate around them. Nevertheless would greatly welcome a bus route in the area.

Very disappointed the bus line is only extending out a little ways West from the mall. It seems our Westbrook families have nothing yet again. This is (also) a tax paying community with lots of older homes & new builds with families and children of various ages. Would be nice if they too could rely on a bus line connecting them with the City of Kingston - Time to connect this areas of Kingston to other amenities.

I fully support this route, I don't have a car and I'm not able to get out of the house as much because there is no bus service in our neighborhood. I had to stop working because it's difficult to get around in winter without a car and this bus route will be a huge help!

Like other have said, the top of Woodhaven, at Cat Woods, has a lot of people parking on the street because of the lack of driveways (most of the houses there are duplex with basement appartments but just a single driveway). I doubt parking restrictions will do much to improve the situation. On the other hand, Holden is not as congested and would allow more people to access the bus (higher density). While someone living in the Woodhaven neighbourhood can use a number of paths as shortcuts to access Rosanna or Cat Woods, there is not a single path in the Holden neighborhood, so a bus going south on Holden would make a lot of sense.

I am glad to hear this is a real possibility since we have teenagers at home! It will definitely be useful for most of the families in the area. I would take the bus myself!

I fully support the route and timings for the proposed Woodhaven Neighbourhood route. My family and I moved into the neighbourhood in 2015 and queried our City Councillor on plans for the bus route back in 2020 with no firm commitment at that time so it is good to see a plan moving forward. The current nearest bus stop is down Princess street and the quickest way to get there is up Princes with no sidewalks or biking paths to get there. Woodhaven is a relatively young neighbourhood and bus service will be a welcome addition. I would also echo previous comments on potential traffic problems at the traffic circle at Cataraqui Woods and Woodhaven. With cars parked on both sides of the street and near the entrance/exit to the traffic circle it can be near impossible for large vehicles to get down Woodhaven to Cataraqui Woods. Some sort of parking restrictions will need to be put into place to ensure the buse can pass there. Finally, I am not sure if consideration has been given to extension of the route North of Cat Woods Drive to where the new elementary school will be built. I fully support the plan as published.

Please, consider extending the route to Westbrook subdivisions or add a new one, we moved to the area a few months ago and got shocked that there is no bus route there! πŸ˜”
I don't drive for a medical condition, so my kids and I found it too costly and inconvenient to get around the city for our basic needs!
