Update, Jan. 2, 2024
: The Kingston Music Strategy was approved by City Council on Dec. 19. Staff will begin implementing the strategy in 2024. This includes establishing a Music Officer position through a partnership with Tourism Kingston, creating a Music Office, forming a community-based Kingston Music Working Group, and developing a 2024 music work plan that includes impactful and responsive music programming and paid opportunities for local musicians.

The City of Kingston, in partnership with Nordicity, a consulting firm with expertise in arts and culture strategic planning, is developing a comprehensive and artist-centred Music Strategy to help realize the full benefits of a thriving local music economy.

The City conducted extensive public engagement in February and March 2023, including a survey, open house, one-on-one interviews, and roundtable discussions, to gather resident feedback and ideas. The aim was to inform the direction of the Kingston Music Strategy and learn about the needs of musicians and opportunities involving all aspects of the music sector. The results of this public engagement can be found in the Public Engagement Report

A draft of the Kingston Music Strategy has been developed and is being shared for public feedback and input. The goal of this engagement is to inform the community of the proposed core pillars of the Strategy, objectives, and actions that have been identified to date, and to seek input on the prioritization of objectives and how well the current actions are aligned.

The City is also seeking suggestions for additional actions that will help realize the objectives and could be considered in the final Kingston Music Strategy. The final Strategy will include an implementation plan, timelines, budget, and resources required.

Please read the draft Kingston Music Strategy before completing the survey.

The survey is now closed.
