LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE

With regards to stripping the city of all that is Sir John A. MacDonald based on his implementation of Residential Schools- Sir John A. MacDonald was the first Prime Minister of this great country that has been home to me all of my life, my children's and grandchildren's lives and my ancestors lives. He did many great things for this country and he made mistakes as well. You know why? Because he's human and not perfect, JUST LIKE THE REST OF US. He made a decision about Residential schools that seemed to be the right choice at that time in his position as Prime Minister, but he did not teach at them or personally lay a hand on or have any personal dealings with any of the students. Teachers did, the people who dealt with the students one to one did. How can you strip our city, let alone the country, of his existence?  You can't, and if you do, you will have to do it for anyone and everyone who has ever made an incorrect choice or a choice people don't agree with. Are we going to strip volunteers who have done great things in this city ( or any city in Canada) because someone or something pops up from their past to say "Hey this person yelled at my kid to get out of their yard because my kid was trespassing" If this were the case, we would have no historic figures because everyone, and I don't care who it is, has done something that has ticked someone off in the past. If you are going to eliminate his memory then you better stop making purchases in stores and using the rail system which moves products and people all over this country

It may have been our ancestors that were at these schools when Sir John A. MacDonald was in office, but he is gone now and they are gone now.  Can we learn from his mistake?  Definitely! Rectify the situation, these schools don't exist anymore, but the effects are real and still affect those who attended them, lets help them, but blaming Sir John A. MacDonald for the treatment is not the answer. Stripping the country of his existence as our first Prime Minister is not the answer.
